After driving up the mediterranean coast with Sheri Kahn, from The Fine Arts League of the Carolinas, we found our selves in the small medival village of Lucignano where Ben Long and Christopher Holt were painting the countryside and preparing for a fresco.

For the summer of 2011, I shared an Atelier in Uzes, France with Francios Lewandrowski. It was a beautiful space on the Rue Paul Foussat, in the heart of the Old Village of Uzes.

Nimes, France

Nimes is a wonderful southern city, full of culture and art. They have a 1st century Roman Amphitheatre that is still in use, an expansive garden in the center of the city called Jardin de le Fontaine, and a beautiful romenesque gothic cathedral that hosts events both religious and secular. The mix of modern and the traditional is apparent everywhere you look. The Maison Carree (Square House), a roman temple built in 19 BC being one of the best preserved Roman temples in the world is aptly juxtaposed to The Carre d'art Musee with an impressive permanent collection and a dynamic series of contemporary work.

	Accidental Art plasters the city.....

Making Panels

Every part of the painting process is important; the subject, the materials, the intention. All are part of the experience. The connection that is made with your materials can be almost as important as the connection made with your subject. Like the pregnancy stage before the birth everything matters and will affect the outcome. I employ techniques taught to me by Benjamin Long, who uses techniques taught to him by Pietro Annigoni. I use birch panels, Belgian linen, rabbit skin glue and lead white. Each step taken with careful attention and consideration.
